Our tiny village Oddington in Oxfordshire was the home and final resting place of the scholar, celebrity and ( crucially for us) entertainer Makereti Papakura( 1870-1930)

This remarkable woman was recently awarded a posthumous doctorate from Oxford University, which made international news .

We are trying to raise awareness and embrace her locally. A simple internet scroll will reveal how extraordinary she was. The history of women, and of those of colour is so often lost.

I am hoping we can recognise one of our own and so please come along to a short talk and screening of a NZ documentary celebrating her.

Professor Clare Harris, head of Anthropology and local councillors will be in attendance.

Location Islip Village Hall Church Lane Islip OX5 2TA
