SUMMARY:Oxford EuroPlus Session
LOCATION:Isis Farmhouse
DESCRIPTION:As a consequence of the Bal Minuscule having moved to Fourth Sunday afterno
ons and going monthly, which was our usual slot, Bal Minuscule has invited
EuroPlus to merge in with them.  Bal Minuscule meets starting at 2PM on fou
rth Sundays at the Isis Farmhouse https://www.theisisfarmhouse.co.uk/ (http
s://www.theisisfarmhouse.co.uk/) .  It's a wonderful place; you can get the
re by bicycle or walking on the Thames Path, or starting from Donnington Br
idge or the Iffley Locks.  Though Bal Minuscule starts at 2PM, the first ho
ur are dance lessons, and for that they prefer to just have the "regular" m
usicians playing.  Lessons end at about 3PM, and then others can join in to
play.\nThis is not exactly a "session," and somewhat less free-for-all tha
n we have been running EuroPlus, but apart from the repertoire, it's not re
ally that different.  The main ground rule is that the music has to be some
thing that has a dance that goes with it.  The repertoire tends towards Fre
nch and French-adjacent (think Blowzabelle, Andy Cutting) stuff, but the da
nceable music overlaps with a lot of what EuroPlus, and for that matter Slo
w Session, play -- waltz (both French and Scandi), schottisch, polska, mazu
rka, bourrée , and polka. We all know Motorway Mazurka, right?  You don't h
ear much Scottish tunes at Bal Minuscule, but these days we have the terrif
ic White Hart Scottish session for that. \nThis is a great chance to play a
long with some really fine musicians.  The standard they set for playing is
very high (maybe even a bit intinidating) but it's a friendly bunch, and w
hile picking up the repertoire, you can always just play softly.  Also, the
se guys know a whole lot of tunes, so chances are that if you start a tune
you know, they'll know it, too.  \nTo subscribe to the mailing list for thi
s session, send email to oxfordeuroplus-subscribe@maillist.ox.ac.uk (mailto
 :oxfordeuroplus-subscribe@maillist.ox.ac.uk) .  This will get you late-brea
king news about the session, pointers to new tunes and other misc. news of
interest to those who play this kind of music.  It will be a low-volume mai
ling list, so won't clutter your inbox.\nAny acoustic instrument is welcome
A lot of players just learn the tunes by showing up and learning from eac
h other, but there is a growing tunebook you can get at by following the li
nk on revontuli.uk, (http://revontuli.uk) for those who prefer the dots. \n

ok, contact Ray Pierrehumbert at lorax2000@gmail.com (mailto:lorax2000@gmai
